Bernadette is one of our very old bears, she's a sweet and cuddly, traditional teddy bear made from gorgeous English mohair by Barbara Ann Bears
Bernadette is 12 inches/30cm tall and is 9 inches/23cm sitting.
Bernadette is a very old bear, she was made from one of our first designs in the early 1990s. We rarely know what happens to our teddy bears once they leave us, most are kept forever and we never see them again, but a few come back to us to look for new homes and Bernadette is one of those. She was one of our first bears with a long snout and a big tummy, a break from the classical teddy and a step into the realm of fun and whimsy from which we have never returned.
Bernadette was one of very few girl bears made from our Bernard McFluff pattern which was very popular at the time, the teddy bear world had seen nothing quite like him, we made him in several different mohairs although there weren't many girl Bernards. She was made back in the early days when we were young, fit and beautiful, when one of us had brown hair and the other had hair...where did it all go?
Bernadette is made from a beautiful, slightly distressed, soft fawn coloured English mohair, we used to love using English mohair, it had such a strong texture, it was made using looms dating back to the early 1900s, since the birth of the teddy bear, sadly the mill that wove the mohair closed long ago and 'they don't make it like that anymore' . Bernadette has beige, German wool felt paw pads and black, glass, spherical eyes, these catch the light from any angle so she always has a cheeky twinkle in her eye. Bernadette has quite a large, neatly sewn nose and a sweet smile. Bernadette has a little pink rose sewn on her left ear.
Bernadette is mostly stuffed with polyester stuffing, she has plastic pellets in her tummy which make her a little heavier and slightly more cuddly. Bernadette, as with all our bears, is 5-way jointed.
We hope you like Bernadette, she looks like he needs a good cuddle, she seems a little lost and forlorn at the moment. She's one of our originals, a bear from the last millennium, from the days before personal computers, iPhones and Facebook, a simple bear from simpler times, we hope you like her.
