Ole Gravelbelly is a a saggy, loveable and folksy teddy bear made in a beautifully embroidered vintage German mohair by Barbara Ann Bears

Ole Gravelbelly is 21.5 inches (38cm) tall and is 14 inches (35cm) sitting, 12 inches (30cm) slouching.

Ole Gravelbelly is the third bear in an edition of three that we made for The Bear Garden in 2010 (his original design goes back to 1993, one of our old favourites), each of the edition is different as the embroidery differs between each bear, this one has a leaf motif that Barbara has carefully placed so that it comes over the top of his head and straight between his eyes along the bridge of his nose. Ole Gravelbelly came back to us following a change in his original family's circumstances and is now looking for a new home where he will be loved and admired.

Ole Gravelbelly is a very saggy bear with bucketfuls of character, a bear who just likes to sit down and really not do very much, although he does love a gentle cuddle and to be told that he's a handsome fellow. His mohair is very old (probably dating back to the 1920s), as you can see in the photo it is beautifully worn and has interesting embroidered features. He is a great companion, he's the sort of bear who has stories to tell if you can listen carefully enough to be able to hear them.

Ole Gravelbelly is made from a piece of warm fawn, vintage German mohair, it may once have been used for a cushion or seat cover, there are several embroidered features on his head, back and shoulders which give a hint of the mohair's previous life. He has beige German wool felt paw pads and old buttons for eyes. Ole Gravelbelly has a marvellous nose, stitched from a charcoal coloured cotton. If you sit Ole Gravelbelly up he can look quite alert and attentive, but he will eventually slump and he can look slightly sad, with a downcast expression, he's a bear who needs some good loving.

Ole Gravelbelly is stuffed with a mixture of polyester stuffing and plastic pellets, making him more cuddly, comfortable and easy to pose and hug.

Ole Gravelbelly is a charming and folksy bear with a calm assurance. His design dates back to a time when we were starting to stray from the path of classical teddy bear making, when we were starting to needle sculpt the heads and have broader snouts with rather large noses. Ole Gravelbelly is a wonderful, saggy bear we hope you love him as much as we do.
