THIS IS A PRINTED WINSTON TEDDY BEAR PATTERN WHICH WE WILL SEND TO YOU IN THE POST.
Winston is about 18 inches (45 cm tall), his pattern uses 1/2 metre of mohair and you'll need 1 x 65 mm and 4 x 55 mm joints.
Winston is a charming, cuddly, old fashioned traditional, Barbara-Ann Bear, which you can make in a variety of mohairs, from vintage or straight to curly or distressed, the Winston pattern makes a very nice girl bear too.
We've always used fairly long mohair to make Winston, with 23 - 25 mm pile, he might look great in other mohairs but we have never tried. Winston is a fairly simple bear to make, he has been popular with people on our teddy bear courses and they have always achieved good results (as you can see in the last two photos). The pieces fit together easily, there are no darts and no need to gather pieces in order to make them fit. He's quite a big bear, he would take quite a while to sew by hand although you can sew him in a comfortable chair while watching TV he might be more suitable for sewing by machine, it depends how much time you have really.
The pattern includes all the instructions you need to make your bear with some diagrams for the more difficult parts. The pattern is on 3 x A3 sheets and is full sized.
You will need 1/2th metre of mohair, paw pad material and cheap felt for lining paw pads, a pair of 16mm amber glass eyes ( we used dark amber eyes in our Winston) or shoe buttons and thread for the nose and mouth. Polyester stuffing, plastic pellets, some extra strong button thread, a long dollmaker’s needle, a size 18 darner’s needle, and 1 x 65 mm and 4 x 55 mm joints.
If you need any of the items necessary to make your bear, mohair, wool felt, eyes, sewing thread, strong button thread, bear making tools, polyester stuffing or glass beads, please contact us and we can supply what you need, you'll just need to pay for them separately.
Please note that the completed bear is not a toy and is unsuitable for children under the age of 14, it is a collector's bear.
